How to Discuss End-of-Life Care: Ensuring Your Wishes Are Known, with Author Chris Palmer. We can’t plan for everything. But we can have “the conversation” (and keep talking) with our loved ones and doctors about our wishes for care and comfort through the end of life. If held correctly, “the conversation” can bring us closer to important people in our lives. This can also create the foundation of a care plan that’s right for us—so our wishes can be understood and respected when the need arises. This can also unburden our loved ones from guessing our preferences. It’s also important to complete an advanced directive and choose what’s known as a health care agent—someone who would make health care decisions on our behalf if we become unable to do so.
