About this event
As we get older, many of us are interested in gathering stories from our lives and sharing them with our children and grandchildren. We want to try and make sense of our lives and create a record describing the events we experienced and how we dealt with struggles, setbacks, and successes. What are the lessons and values that we want to pass on? What did we find meaningful? What was important to us? What is our legacy?
This 3-part class on October 6, 13, and 20 will be taught by Chris Palmer, who has taught memoir-writing at The Writer's Center. His classes were very popular and got rave reviews from students.
The focus will be practical and designed to help participants make rapid progress with their memoirs. We'll discuss the reasons for writing a memoir, how to plan and structure it, how to collect ideas (including ones that are long forgotten), how to tell powerful and effective stories, how to deal with conflict and contention, and how to deal with sensitive issues. Open to BMAV members.
