James H. Barron will be speaking about his recently published book, The Greek Connection:  The Life of Elias Demetracopoulos and the Untold Story of Watergate.

Drawing on a decade of research and original reporting, he tells the story of a man whose pursuit of uncomfortable truths put him at odds with the government of his native Greece and with eight U. S presidents, from Truman through Reagan. Demetracopoulos was the target of CIA, FBI, and State Department surveillance and harassment, as well as a kidnapping plot.  The Greek Connection tells about the cost of standing up for democracy and a free press, and the role of foreign money in the presidential election of 1968.

Praise for the book comes from Doris Kearns Goodwin:"... a magnificent work, a triumphant combination of exhaustive research and fine narrative writing."

Barron is a journalist, attorney, and the founding advisory board member of the New England Center for Investigative Reporting.
