About this event
We all know that taking a walk in the woods can be a soothing experience. But did you know that a growing body of research finds that contact with nature is more than just enjoyable: it can significantly improve our health and well-being. Studies show that exposure to natural environments improves mood and reduces stress, supports cognitive function and emotional regulations, and is associated with better health outcomes. In this interactive Earth Day program, we’ll explore this research and how we can implement healthy nature practices both out of doors and in our homes.
Speaker: Dr. Pru Foster got a PhD in astrophysics back in the dark ages, but driven by her sympathy with wildlife, pivoted to doing research on climate change and biodiversity for 20+ years. These days her great passion is gardening, which is focused on providing habitat and food for wildlife. Pru is president of the Nation’s Capital Region chapter of the Wild Ones, secretary of the Maryland Native Plant Society, and editor of and contributor to Marilandica. Her other writing includes her newsletter, The Prudent Lifestyle, and her book “A Drop of Grace: Finding and Protecting our Common Ground. Pru also is active locally with the Potomac Village Garden Club, Potomac Green Coffee, and the Persimmon Tree Overpass weekly protest.
